I’ve decided to kick things into high gear to make myself bikini ready for summer. If you know me, you know I’m OBSESSED with the Tone It Up girls Karena and Katrina! They are my motivation and my fitspiration. Every year they do what is called the Bikini Series. It’s 8 weeks of scheduled workouts and meals (if you own their nutrition plan) and boy is it intense. I did it for the first time last year and was thrilled with my results. This year I am more serious about it and cannot wait to reveal those abs I’ve never seen before.
The awesome thing about the bikini series is that it’s free, but I’m sure you will want to buy the nutrition plan and DVDs after you sign up. I’m telling you, these girls are addicting and infectious! Sign up at toneitup.com! Here are my before pictures so I can compare in 8 weeks how I look! Day one starts today! Join me 🙂
My life has been changed! I have been seeing spiralizers all over the place and this awesome new book called Inspiralized by Ali Maffucci. Of course I had to find out what all the buzz was about. I went on target.com and ordered the fab book and a “veggetti”, sounds so dirty, I know. Omg, spiraling my veggies into fake noodles is the best thing ever! I suggest you run out to target ASAP and buy both the Inspiralized book and a spiralizer.
Here is fun recipe I came up with experimenting with the spiralizer. Super simple and easy.
Veggie spaghetti serves 2
1 big carrot
1/2 lb Lean ground beef
2 tbsp whole wheat bread crumbs
Salt and pepper to taste
Organic tomato sauce
Make 6 meatballs by combining bread crumbs, egg, and ground beef together. Put them in the oven for 30 min at 400 degrees.
Meanwhile peel your parsnips and carrot and spiralize into fake noodles.
Once meatballs are done, add them to a sauce pan with the tomato sauce and cook on medium low on the the stove for about 10 minutes. Once simmered, add in “noodles” and let simmer for about 5 min and boom, done!
There you have it. A delicious low carb meal that is super nutritious! Enjoy!
I have been on a sugar rush for the past couple weeks. I feel like I’ve been stuffing every single baked good in my mouth and of course it just makes me want more. This is why for the next week (work week) I need to reset. I’m going on a sugar and alcohol detox for the week. I added the booze in there because, while I only have a glass of wine in the evening, it still takes its toll on my skin and other organs.
Here is the day by day feelings of what it was like like for me.
Day 1 Monday- feeling super positive about this. Sugar cannot control me. It’s just one week and my body needs this so bad! Midday is the hardest because that’s when I crave a cookie or something sweet. I keep telling myself that this is good for me….fake it til I make it, baby!
Day 2 Tuesday- actually woke up more energized than I felt in a while. I slept super well last night. I was really craving something sweet around 2 so I made some Ezekiel toast topped with sunflower seed butter, honey and chia seeds and it helped curb my sweet tooth. Tonight I really wanted a glass of wine, but had tea instead 🙂
Day 3 Wednesday- didn’t sleep too well last night because my toddler was up a lot. These are usually the days I crave more sugary sweets. By midday I’m feeling in a really good mood. It’s almost like sugar has been a cloud over my head. I feel less irritable and more positive! This is really going better than I thought.
Day 4 Thursday I definitely feel my energy levels are up! I am craving a cupcake today though…..ugh! Went on Amazon looking for unrefined baking cookbooks. Any suggestions??? I taught yoga tonight and came home totally wanting a glass of wine. I had tea again and I’m starting to realize it’s just the drinking motion that I like at night, doesn’t matter what I’m drinking. Epiphanies are happening this week, haha.
Day 5 Friday- last day!! I’m feeling a little tired today, but only because my toddler was up a lot last night. I’m not super craving a sweet but am definitely going to enjoy a cupcake tomorrow.
I learned this week that both sugar and alcohol are my weaknesses. I won’t give them up totally but I now realize I feel so much better when I don’t overdue it. I will still have a sweet treat now and then and a glass of wine a few times a week but it will now become an exception not an expectation.
Ok so I’m a sucker for beauty products. Ever since I was young I would create little spa days. I still have my rituals each week to buff and hydrate and smooth my skin all over. Of course when I discovered a new facial mask monthly subscription service called Hello Huckleberry, I had to jump on that train. This company based out of Austin Texas offers different subscription options on their site hellohuckleberry.com. I chose once a month mask and peel/exfoliator for $15, waaaay less than a facial at the spa. With your first purchase you get a free mask brush as well, awesome! I took a short quiz and they customize what treatments would work best for my skin. Each month they choose one for me.
I received my first mask/peel combo in the mail and used it right away. I got the spiced wine set and it smelled like heaven! The Peel went on super smooth and burned a little a first but it started to subside a couple minutes into having it on, it just felt like the warm sun on my face after a while. It Came off super easy and I could already feel the smoothness of my skin. Yowza!
The Mask went on like butter and that brush felt so amazing against my skin. Smells amazing, like spiced wine! Crazy how it’s scent is so delightful. After my skin was a little red, which was normal. The company suggested using it at night for this reason.
When I woke up my skin was literally glowing. It was clear, smooth and my normal redness had disappeared. I highly suggest trying this company out because you will not be disappointed. Check out my pic below to see the fabulous results
Today I thought I’d share a day in the life of my eating habits. I feel like I’m a good balance between both healthy and allowing myself a treat once in a while. I try mostly to stay away from carbohydrates at dinner but definitely enjoy sprouted grain during the day. I hope this helps show you just how uncomplicated healthy eating can be.
Breakfast- coffee is a must! I usually drink 2 cups with truvia and coconut milk creamer. After my morning workout I usually have a veggie loaded egg white omelette with a slice of Ezekiel toast with coconut oil.
Morning snack- I love Siggi’s yogurt. I usually have that mixed with flaxseeds. Soooo good!
Lunch- this is when I get creative. I usually mix quinoa or whole wheat pasta with either beans or chicken and a ton of veggies. I love kale, spinach, carrots, peppers, garlic and onion. I love sautéing everything together and adding lots of herbs, sooo good!
Aftenoon snack. Seasonal fruit and some Beanitos cheese puffs. Right now I’m loving kiwi and pineapple.
Dinner- usually I find a recipe from cookbooks like the Skinnytaste Cookbook. Last night my husband and I had an amazing white wine and garlic shrimp sautéed with broccoli. It was delicious.
This is just what my best days look like. Some days I love a good cookie or cupcake added into the mix. And I do love a glass of wine in the evening.
I hope I inspired you to have a wonderfully healthy day 🙂
Lately I’ve really been into supporting the small business. I grew up with my parents owning a restaurant and having to compete with the chain restaurants and decided when I was younger to only eat locally rather then at chains because the quality is so much better!
The same can be said for skincare products. Since starting my all natural, healthy journey, I have come across so many small business brands that I just love. Etsy is a great place to find such brands as well as Instagram. I feel like not only do you get amazing products made with love and care, you are also helping someone’s career and livelihood. I’ve also found that when these businesses write me personal notes of thanks when I buy their products it really makes me feel special. When was the last time Sephora sent you a handwritten thank you note? Yeah….never.
I recently have become bias towards a few small brands that I want to share with you. And no they did not pay me to do this…..I’m a blogger, but not yet a successful blogger.
1. Leahlaniskincare- this amazing skincare line is off of etsy and has everything from body butter to the amazing mermaid mask that I posted about in a previous post “afterglow”. The owner, who lives in Hawaii, is so sweet and you can tell she really puts love into her line. Her mom also makes amazing sea salt soaps on etsy called KopaKauai.
2. Rocky Mountain Soap Co.- this company is awesome! The company, based out of Canada, is involved in the Toxin-FREE movement so you know their products are super safe. They sell many soap, skincare, deodorant and more. I own the avocado facial soap and loooove how it both cleans and hydrates my skin amazingly. The baby bear soap is great also for my toddler’s sensitive skin and makes her feel oh so soft and cuddly. http://www.rockymountainsoap.com
3. Last but not least Scrubs by Banks- this California based company creates customized natural scrubs that smell as amazing as they feel on your skin. I own the Vanilla latte scrub and I want to eat it because it’s scent is scrumptious! It also hydrates and sloughs off my dead skin. http://www.scrubsbybanks.com
Please check these amazing companies out. I promise you won’t be disappointed 🙂
When something is taken away, that’s when you realize how much you need and miss it. Am I talking about love? No, I’m actually talking about water. For some reason the past few days, our faucet water had tasted awful, even when it’s put through the Brita. This has showed me how important water really is in my life. I know it’s pretty trivial but when I don’t get my 8-10 glasses, I feel tired, sallow and lethargic.
Water is such an amazing beverage to incorporate into your life. First of all, it keeps those pesky dehydration headaches away. Another reason I love guzzling H2O is because it makes my skin feel so hydrated and glowy. I swear, the reason I look semi younger than 32 is because of my water consumption. I also love drinking water because it makes me pee….a lot. I feel like I release toxins every time and it’s purifying my kidneys. Yeah, tmi, sorry. I could really go on and on with my love for water, but that could take all day.
Here are some fun ways to spice up that water so it doesn’t taste so blah.
1. Add lemon. Not only does lemon make water taste good, it also helps with the detoxing process
2. Put in fruit infused ice cubes. Just add blueberries, raspberries or any fruit of choice in your ice cube tray and fill with water, freeze and bam! Yummy infused water
3. Last but not least, play with squeezing different citrus combinations in your water. I love mixing orange, lime and grapefruit together in my water…..so good, plus an extra boost of vitamin C!
Now go drink some water!!!
